We are proud to announce our 2025 Tomah High School Distinguished Alumni Inductee – Professor Scott Gilbertson (THS Class of 1975)!
Born and raised in Tomah, Scott attended THS from 1972-1975. After graduating, he went on to earn degrees in Chemistry from UW-La Crosse, the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
In addition to his work in research, Professor Gilbertson taught, mentored, and inspired undergrad students, postdoctoral fellows and Ph.D. candidates. Throughout his career he has worked at Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Texas Medical Branch, and the University of Houston. He has received numerous awards, published over 100 research papers, presented worldwide, served on numerous NIH committees, was named a Fellow of the American Chemical Society, and was a founding member of the Gulf Coast Consortium for Chemical Genomics and Drug Discovery and Development. Over the years he has held the office of Assistant professor, Professor, Robert A Welch Distinguished University Chair, M.D. Anderson Professor in Chemistry, and Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs.
Now retired as Emeritus M.D. Anderson Professor of Chemistry, Scott and his wife Michelle enjoy life in Arcadia, Michigan.
