The Tomah High School Academic Decathlon team delivered a historic performance at the Wisconsin State Academic Decathlon Competition, earning the highest overall finish in school history.

Competing against top schools from across the state, Tomah placed second in its division and finished an impressive third overall in Wisconsin. The strong showing reflects months of preparation and dedication from the students and their advisors.

Tomah students also tied a school record by bringing home seven individual medals during the competition.

Joanna Stryker earned four medals, including gold in Honors Math and Honors Economics, along with bronze medals in Science and Overall.
John Battista earned a bronze medal in Varsity Social Science.
Zoe Pergande earned a silver medal in the Scholastic Essay category.
Madi McCabe earned a gold medal in Honors Science.

In addition to the medal count, several Tomah students set new school records during the state competition.

Kaitlynn Gigous set a new Scholastic Music record, while Izzy Hilt set a Tomah record for the combined Speech, Interview, and Essay categories. Madi McCabe also set a new Tomah record in Science and tied the highest individual test score in school history with an impressive 960 out of 1000.

Because of their outstanding performance at the state level, the Tomah team has earned an invitation to compete in the Academic Decathlon Online National Competition. This marks only the second time in school history that Tomah has advanced to nationals. The team will be one of just seven schools representing Wisconsin at the national level.

Congratulations to the Academic Decathlon team and their advisors on this remarkable achievement and best of luck as they prepare to compete on the national stage.
