
FAQ - Employment
To become a School Bus Driver you must:
- Pass our qualifications and requirements check
- Apply to become a TASD School Bus Driver through WECAN
- Complete training and testing for your CDL (S) license
- This is paid for by the School District for qualifying applicants
- This includes classroom training, ride-alongs with an experienced driver, and testing through the WI DMV
- Maintain CDL (S)
- Stay in compliance with the WI DMV by passing a physical exam to make sure you still meet the health, hearing and vision requirements to transport children

Your health or driving record does not have to be perfect to apply! The WI DMV explains disqualifying identifiers on one's background check or license history. Click the link below to verify you still qualify:
- Our Transportation Department is fortunate to offer our drivers a flexible work schedule. Drivers are able to fill out their availability and routes will be assigned accordingly.
- If you can only work certain days of the week or times, please don't let that deter you from applying! We'd love to work around that.
- There are substitute driver opportunities along with routes for clubs and athletic competitions, field trips, and others!
- Bus drivers are also encouraged to apply for other positions throughout the district (Food Services, Grounds Keeping, and Classroom Aides are popular departments) that also offer part time shifts. This can accumulate to more hours and pay!
- The school district will pay for the state required licensing and training (see above for more information).
- Ride along training is provided to new drivers to ensure their comfort in handling the vehicle.
- Beyond that, the Transportation Department holds an annual safety meeting , as well as classroom-style training for the drivers.
- Each school bus is equipped with a camera surveilance system to assist with enforcing safe riding policies amongst our students.
- The department Director and Supervisor are supportive of their drivers and are always available to discuss any concerns you have with your route or students.

Permanent bus drivers' day typically looks like this:
- AM Route: 6:00 am - 8:00 am
- PM Route: 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm
There are opportunities available for drivers to drive additional routes for field trips as well as athletics and club competitions.
If you are not able to work Monday through Friday or are not able to work both the morning and afternoon routes, we can work around that!
We also have substitute driver opportunities available; you can be on call and fill in for our other drivers!
