Congratulations to Carolyn Johnson on being named Educator of the Year at the Tomah Chamber 63rd Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony held on February 23rd.

Carolyn serves as a Special Education Teacher at Tomah High School and is known for the genuine care and dedication she shows to her students each and every day.

We would also like to congratulate the outstanding nominees from TASD in the Educator category:

Gretchen Meacham – THS Special Education Teacher

Sarah Walters – THS Special Education Teacher

Maretta Budde – Warrens Early Childhood Itinerant Teacher

Kristin Dulinsky – Camp Douglas 4th Grade Teacher

Manuela Hruska – TMS English Teacher

Stephanie Hove – TMS Math Teacher

Katie Spiers – THS Health Teacher

Ted Schultz – THS Technical Education Teacher

Here is what the person who nominated Carolyn had to say:

“Carolyn is an educator that truly cares about the students’ well-being. My son was a lost student. His grades were terrible, and as parents we felt lost as to what else we could do to help. I reached out to Carolyn knowing she worked with kids who could use a bit of help and additional guidance. She helped me get our son tested through the school to better understand what could be done. Knowing our son had ADHD, he was a busy kid — smart but busy. She helped structure his education and classes at the high school.

By his sophomore year, he was making the honor roll. By junior year, he was able to participate in the school-to-work program, and now as a senior, he is graduating at semester with a job in the trades that he is very interested in. Not all teachers understand students with ADHD or how to work with them — but Carolyn does. It is hard to put into words what it means when you see your bright, intelligent son struggle and then find a teacher who gets it and becomes his ‘go-to,’ guidance, and friend. Carolyn has helped mold many students into the strong, productive people they are today.”

We are incredibly proud of Carolyn and grateful for impact she has on our students and families and want to give a huge THANK YOU to all of our dedicated educators who make a difference every day!
