The Tomah High School German students kicked off their international experience with an exciting and educational first week in Germany. Their journey began with a visit to a local school, offering an authentic look at daily life for German students. They also explored the bustling city of Frankfurt and took a guided tour through Mainz, where two THS students had the opportunity to demonstrate how Gutenberg’s famous printing press worked.
The cultural immersion continued as students rolled up their sleeves to cook a traditional German meal—bratwurst and potato salad—before heading to the scenic Rhine Valley to cross the Rhine River. A visit to the historically significant Point Alpha in the Fulda Gap gave students insight into Cold War history.
To cap off the week, students enjoyed a bit of fun with summer tobogganing, adding a thrill to their packed itinerary.
This once-in-a-lifetime experience has brought learning to life in ways the classroom simply can’t replicate. What an incredible way to expand learning beyond the classroom!
