Social Media Post Investigation Follow Up

Tomah Area School District Families, 

On November 30th, Tomah High School Administration was made aware of a concerning picture and caption posted on social media. The facts of the situation regarding the picture and the alleged threat of its caption were investigated by Tomah Police Department and Tomah High School administration. It was determined there was no credible threat of harm to students or staff. Tomah Area School District administration takes every report seriously. Thorough investigation of incidents are promptly conducted with the Tomah Police Department.  

The Tomah Police Department has posted the following message on their Facebook page: “On November 30, 2021, the Tomah Police Department responded to the Tomah High School for a report of a concerning social media post being circulated. School Administration and Police met with several students who had direct information related to this social media post.  The picture in the post being circulated was NOT created by the individual in the photo.  Someone took a screenshot of this student and added the concerning caption.  This entire matter has been investigated and all parties involved have admitted to their respective involvement.  There was no credible threat associated with this incident.” 

The incident has been investigated. What we have learned from this investigation is that there is no ongoing or continuing threat to the community. The school district will continue investigating this matter and will take whatever disciplinary actions that are deemed appropriate. 

The safety and security of our students and faculty is a top priority.  Tomah Area School District has threat assessment and response protocols in place to address incidents in cooperation with local law enforcement and emergency responders.
