Tomah Area School District provides a comprehensive elementary school counseling program for all students, is aligned with the ASCA National Model, and is dedicated to improving student success.
Typical Services Provided:
- Individual counseling (short-term, solution-focused)
- Group counseling (Topics determined by student needs)
- Biweekly guidance lessons (Grades K-5)
- Career conferencing (Offered to 5th grade students and their families)
- Play Therapy (exploring & role-playing solutions, creative representations of life situations)
- Bibliotherapeutic Experiences (reading & discussing books relevant to the student experiences)
- Conflict-Resolution processes (working out disagreements)
- Video-clip discussion/analysis (identifying strengths, challenges, solutions)
- Behavioral Coaching/Role Plays (goal-setting & encouragement)
- Therapeutic Games (card & board games focused on developing coping skills)
- Active Listening & Academic/Organizational Skill-Development (study skills, etc.)
